Business without a corporate logo- Is it saving or losing?
![]() |
|
| Have you ever imagined how it would have been if all humans were alike? With no individuality or uniqueness of our own, how would we be able to recognize one another? Applying this principle to the corporate world, a business without a logo design is like a human without a face. Irrespective of what field you are doing business in, without a logo you are no different than the rest.
Many shrewd businessmen who argue that logo designing for business is a futile practice, own a short-termed philosophy. They ignore the fact that corporate logos can leave a grave impact on your expenses but it also opens the gate to myriad long-term benefits. To put it in a nut shell, logo design pays off! How your corporate logo builds your business future?Even though experts have continually advised small-business owners on building a brand for their small business and start-ups, they often do not provide substantial reasons for the same. This is the exact purpose that I wish to serve through this post. Over-smart business owners who believe they can manage without a visual identity are often blinded by the fact that the competition is fierce to be easily recognized. While it is true that avoiding a corporate logo can save you a small amount of money in the beginning, but it leads you to short-term and unsuccessful business. Your customers and investors need to be assured that you are serious and intend to remain in the business with a future outlook. Serious business is not done without a corporate logo. Business logos enables our products and services to be prominent and memorable in the market. It is a known fact that people are more likely to remember what they see rather than what they read or hear. Hence, people who think they can build their business image on personal PR are mistaken. Having a logo that is consistent across all business promotions (business cards, stationary, and website) will help in constructing a visual clip of your company. Don’t take a risk!!There is a misconception which mostly small-business owners tend to follow… a delusion that logo designing is a useless business expense. In definitive terms, opportunity cost is the cost of forgoing one thing in favor of another. In economic terms, it is the opportunity cost that you forgo for the value of high customer retention in future. It is amazing that businessmen readily invest in stock exchanges and other investments which do not even guarantee sure-shot returns, while they overlook logo design, which is an investment that guarantees immeasurable returns in your business. |

15 Smart Free Fonts for Corporate Logos
|
Correct use of fonts is a very significant part of logo design that many of us overlook. The job of a logo designer is to make the message in the corporate logo design appropriate for the targeted customers. In order to do this, the font used in the logo design should be functional and meaningful. Several famous corporate logos are identified only because of their specific typography. Think of valuable corporate fonts like Coca-Cola and Walt Disney for instance. These corporate giants have logos with stylish and elegant fonts. Only their typography has made it a successful corporate brand. While the use of clichéd typography will make your logo design memorable, it can also cause logo infringement issues. Many logo designers pick up clichéd typographies and try to manipulate them by adding or subtracting elements. But they end up with something that is simply unoriginal. So in order to avoid the risk of logo plagiarism, you can make use of free fonts in your corporate logo. Here are 15 of the most stylish and elegant free fonts that will suit your corporate identity.

Blackwater adopts new logo design: A change for positivity!!
| The US based security company Blackwater, involved in the shooting of Iraqi civilians, has changed its name to Xe (Pronounced Zee). Blackwater, a private military company founded in 1997 by Erik Prince and Al Clark has recently undergone surgery of its company logo and identity. It announced on February 13, 2009 that it would be operating under the new name "Xe". | |

1 ) About the Blackwater Logo Designs - Old and New:The company’s infamous bear-paw and crosshairs logo design became an icon within the private-security industry, to the extent that some Blackwater guards had it tattooed on themselves. After the September 2007 shooting, the company attempted to soften the look of their company logo and changed its name from Blackwater to Xe Services LLC. The new logo design is a stylish black "X" on a white background, with a small "e" superimposed on it. Many believe that this new logo design is a bizarre cross between the old Xerox corporate logo and the brand mark for Xena: Warrior Princess. |

2 ) Why the sudden redesign?Interestingly, the executive board of Blackwater has indirectly confessed that it had to change Blackwater’s name and corporate logo due to massive criticism it faced. Blackwater’s President Gary Jackson has said that, |

| The redesigning of the company logo came as five former Blackwater guards faced charges in the shooting deaths of 17 unarmed civilians. A sixth man has already pleaded guilty in the 2007 incident, which resulted in Blackwater losing its license to operate in Iraq.
The former name and company logo “Blackwater” has also been removed from its various business units. |

3 ) Experts’ opinion on the new corporate logo:Regardless of the motives for rebranding, experts aren’t convinced the new logo design will bolster the company’s image.
Howard Belk, co-president and chief creative officer of brand strategy firm Siegel Gale, referring to the surreptitious, sneaky qualities of the logo design said that, "Now they look more like a spy organization, when [people] hear it, they won’t know how to spell it. When they see it, they won’t know how to say it.” So what do you think…the new identity adopted by this notorious company will help repairing its much tarnished image? |

Company logos are of three different kinds: text, symbolic and combination. While text symbols use special calligraphic symbols to represent the name of the company with its full name or initials, symbolic logos use specific symbols to represent the company and its services. Combination logos, on the other hand, consist of a combination of text and symbols representing the company. Out of the three, combination logos are the most expensive.

Logo Design Contests for Corporate Logos - An endless debate!!
![]() |
|
Certainly, the topic today is not new, but surely very controversial one. Being in this corporate world I would like to discuss the importance of logo design contests in a corporate world. The logo design awareness is on a rise and business owners are now very convinced about having a strong corporate identity. But this also brings in number of choices to get a logo design, leaving us confused in the end. Crossing the basic debate about advantages and disadvantages of Spec work, I would like to highlight a new aspect. Recession has given birth to abundant small businesses, making them approach different logo design contest sites to get a new corporate identity within a limited budget. Here I would like to ask a question to all the great names of logo design community and expect an honest answer… Is it wrong to get a logo from a contest site, in these low economy times? Unquestionably, the success and failure of a business immensely relies on its corporate logo and a professional company logo should be our top priority. However, looking at the present economy crisis, when so many people are being laid off, not left with much choice except to start a small business to earn their bread and butter. Big names of design community evidently oppose design crowd sourcing and ridiculously curse the spec work. Brand stack, Crowd Spring, Inc Spring, 99Designs, MycroBurst and many other such resources are crudely being blamed for supporting this trend of design contest sites. They believe that designers are paid too low on such sites and mostly their hard work is wasted. I think before tagging the logo design contest sites as immoral and useless, they should consider the present economy breakdown. Every business owner cannot pay big prices of top designers and in such circumstances they are not left with much choice then these contest sites. After sharing my verdict, I would like to know from you all if the present financial break down is a justifying reason to approach logo design contests and are they really beneficial? |
